I can see where this list is going which is great for those who like it and I’ve nothing against them. I’ll probably stick to Radios 3 and 4, and hope that a good radio provision continues to be available in the cars, which I very much appreciate - though not when I find I have to reprogramme the stations I like because their buttons have been taken over by local radio or R1.

  4. Paul Buchanan says:

Ignore the heavy stuff, stick on a bit of:

Annie Lennox - Walking on broken Glass
Ace Of Base - The Sign
Deep Blue Something - Breakfast at Tiffanys
    Oasis - Headshrinker
    Natalie Imbruglia - Torn

  5. Steve says:

    I like to hear:

    Razorlight (pretty much anything)

    The Killers - Joyride

Ciara - Love, sex & magic

    Rihanna - Disturbia

Always take the weather - crowded house?

    Coldplay - viva la vida

  7. peter sharp says:

    Any Beach Boys
    Santana
For Summer listenign any latin/spanish eg. Gypsy Kings
We need something bright cheerful and something you can dance to whilst driving (only kidding)

  8. Phil Wickins says:

These are my absolute faves to drive to, a mix of (relatively) old and new for everyone…

12 Muse - “Knights of Cydonia”

  9. Rona Wightman says:

My preference is Classic FM, but if the family are along its something horrible like radio 1 or noisy local stuff - with you on that one Angela!.
To keep us all happy with some CDs:
    - once through on Horrid Henry (urgh!) is quite enough;
    - Bodega and their eponymous album, especially ‘Wagon Wheel’ (yeah! rock me mama!);
    - and a Hank Williams compilation
    are the best.

  10. Dave Wells says:

It depends who gets control of the CD player!
The best driving songs ever are:

    Radar Love GOLDEN EARRING
    Grey Cortina TOM ROBINSON BAND
Car trouble ADAM AND THE ANTS

  11. Celine says:

I HATE driving, but if I have to, I will gladly tune to Classical Radio which rather operates like a background noise rather than actual music you listen to.

This way, I can keep all of my concentration to watch the road, and more specifically other cars.

If there’s no traffic (or passenger in the car), I will play any Red Hot Chili Peppers or the Ramones and sing along.

  12. Richard Heywood says:

Definitely some Bedouin Soundclash in there! And I have to agree with Biffy Clyro if you’re doing some motorway driving!

For me, you’ve got to have plenty of reggae on a summer playlist. Some Toots and the Maytals would work perfectly, either “Funky Kingston” or “54-46 What’s My Number?”

  13. Celine says:

NOTE FOR LATER: Ask my colleagues and friends to lend me some Bedouin Soundclash CDs- never heard of them but everybody is on about how great their music is…

    I feel super silly! 8/

  14. Richard Heywood says:

You’ll have probably heard “When the Night Feels My Song” on a T-Mobile advert that was on TV back in 2007.

They’re a really chilled out reggae/ska/rock/pop type band, absolutely perfect for a hot summer’s day!

  15. Robin Brown says:

Here’s a driving playlist we did for MotorTorque.com a couple of years ago. I think they key constituent is Crockett’s Theme (this is a Spotify url):
